F.A.Q.
- Q: Where do I enter my receipts?
- A: You don't.
- Q: Seriously, where do I enter my receipts?
- A: Dude, you don't. Seriously. You should check out Expenditure or iXpensit they're what you want. Payday is for the kind of people who put receipts straight into the trash.
- Q: Does Payday help me track my mileage?
- A: Dude! FYI Milage, Trip Cubby. There's loads of cool apps for that.
- Q: What about different currencies. Does Payday…?
- A: Dude! Payday is different. Payday is for people just trying to make it through until next payday.
- Q: What if I overspend my daily budget?
- A: Simple. Get a balance from your bank a.s.a.p. and type it into Payday.
- Q: What are the orange dots?
- A: They are the days counting up to your next salary
- Q: Do the orange dots count up or count down?
- A: Up. If all the dots are orange then it's Payday. Think of it like a little birthday.
- Q: Can I change my payday/salary info?
- A: Yes. You can do it from the pull down on the main screen or you can edit your profile: click the info button and follow the help in the top right corner.
- Q: What if I get paid quarterly/semesterly/termly?
- A: Sorry, we don't handle that automatically in version 1.0. You can fake a monthly wage by dividing your money into equal amounts and setting 'Cap Budget' in the app settings.
- Q: What if I get paid intermittently?
- A: Version 1.0 doesn't handle that yet, sorry. Hopefully we will address that in a future update. For now, you can tell Payday about the next day you get paid using the monthly date, or the next two days using the twice-monthly. However, it will only take the next payment into account, so it won't work well if you get paid wildly different amounts. I think we know how to do this well for a future version. Let us know if you want it badly.
- Q: What if my pay day is on a day that isn't in every month, e.g. 29-31st
- A: Payday will move it back to the last existing day of each month, e.g. 28th Feb (most years), 30th Sept etc.
- Q: What if I get paid on the last Thursday/Friday of the month?
- A: Version 1.0 doesn't handle that automatically yet, sorry. We fully intend to maybe add a button for it in a future version. You can, of course, enter it manually–but this will mean changing it each month.
- Q: Why do you need me to enter my name?
- A: We don't. We only really want it so we can draw it on your savings book . Oh, and we automatically stick it at the bottom of the feedback emails. Put anything you want in there–we don't care, we were just having a laugh.
- Q: What if my bills are a different amount each month?
- A: Version 1.0 doesn't track different bill amounts. You'd be best to budget for the largest bill you have ever received for now. We're probably working on this feature though.
- Q: Why do bills have contact info?
- A: So you can phone them when you are at work and have your account number ready.
- Q: How do I remove a contact from a bill?
- A: Un-tick them by clicking on them again (then don't forget to save).
- Q: The paperclip on the savings page doesn't clip to the book.
- A: I know. It bugs me too. But it was worse when it did. Just try to look past it. I find sticking my fingers in my ears and going la-la-la-la helps.
- Q: The noises are really annoying. Can I turn them off?
- A: Yes. In the app settings.
- Q: Can I get rid of those help buttons?
- A: Yes. In the app settings.
- Q: What is 'Smart Rounding'?
- A: Smart rounding will round all money coming in downwards and all money going out upwards. It will also hide any fractions. Sam wanted this as his motto is, "Fuck the Pennies; look after the pounds".
- Q: What does 'Cap Budget' do?
- A: It is for lucky people who have extra money in their bank account that they would like to ignore. Payday will only use your salary to create your budget. If you turn this on any money you don't spend each month will start to accumulate. One use for this is if you get paid per semester or quarterly or if you are living off capital like Bert was when he added the feature.
- Q: Why doesn't Payday have a lock?
- A: It could do, we just haven't felt the need. Do you want one?
- Q: Will there be an iPad version?
- A: Unlikely: Payday is a carry-around-with you app. We'd be more inclined to make a companion app for perusing your finances from the comfort of your sofa. Or a game.
- Q: Can you provide guarantees that Payday's calculations are accurate?
- A: No. Bert did them.
- Q: Is Payday bug-free?
- A: 100% Not.
- Q: Why is Payday so expensive?
- A: It isn't. We spent a year on it. We think we're worth it. We can't pay for houses and children by selling apps for the price of a tomato.
